Ya Leily Belly Dance Club is a place to get together and explore our love of Middle Eastern dance and music both classic and modern!

Brigid aka Zumarrad is an independent belly dance teacher, performer and researcher, who is passionate about Egyptian dance technique, musicality and feeling.

Her passion is for Egyptian raqs sharqi and folklore, and the delicious music that underpins this complex and sometimes challenging cultural expression.

Brigid wrote her masters thesis on bellydance in New Zealand and has contributed chapters to several books on bellydance. Her current research passion is exploring representations of dance and dancers in recent Egyptian television and film.
