Students progress together in mixed-level classes. Technique is important to keep dancers' bodies safe, and I consider it a prerequisite for attending Choreography class. We learn finger cymbals and additional props matching the current style I'm teaching. I aim to give my students a broad overview of the belly dance family tree, as practiced in the US and/or the MENAHT cultures of origin.

Styles Offered: American Cabaret, Fusion, Egyptian, Folkloric
Evening classes at 6 Devon St W New Plymouth. Private classes. Workshops.

It has been my great privilege to study with some of the most prominent teachers of belly dance, in California's Bay Area and beyond. Innovation paired with respectful study of MENAHT (Middle Eastern, North African, Hellenistic and Turkish) masters keeps my dance both fresh and rooted in various traditions. I will dance to almost anything, from Egyptian orchestral music to progressive rock.

MEDANZ Teachers' Network

The MEDANZ Teachers’ Network is open to all members who teach Middle Eastern dance (including Tribal) or music (including drumming).

Notes:

  • All information is self reported.

  • MEDANZ does not endorse or provide guarantees of any teachers listed. Please use your judgement.

  • “Training for Teaching” - this includes study other than dance/music for example teaching methodology and safe dance practice. That is, how the teacher has been trained to teach. This would normally be 6 months-3 years of recognized tertiary study.

  • “Maintenance of Dance/Music Training” – this is how the teacher keeps up to date and extends their own skills. For brevity the register displays the years of the last three significant workshops/training the teacher has undertaken in the last five years. This should be beyond beginner level and with a (single) experienced and recognized teacher for at least 8 hours. Teachers may have also attended short mix and match workshops with a range of teachers – but these are not included.

  • MED – Middle Eastern Dance (embracing belly dance, folkloric, beledi, and Tribal)

  • MEM – Middle Eastern Music
