About the Event

Join me on Sunday 29th of November as we delve into two of my favourite styles to teach and dance.

10 am-11:30 am: Mejanse

Mejanse or Mejance ( two of at least ten different spelling varieties) is a belly dancer’s entrance piece. It is recognisable by structure and rhythmic changes, highlighting a dancer’s strengths and often showcasing a preview of what she/he will be performing during the show. In this class you will learn a short entrance routine to make the best first impression and keep the audience with you every step of the journey.

11:30 am-1pm: Baladi

In the context of belly dance, baladi (alternatively spelled balady or beledi) usually refers to Egyptian folkloric music and social dance that evolved when people from rural areas of Egypt began migrating to the cities. In this class we will dance to a baladi progression, also called baladi taqsim. We will learn about the structure of this style of music and how to express the hip focused, grounded and improvisational nature of the dance.

To enable meaningful feedback, there is a limit of 10 spaces per class. Don’t miss out! Register at aucklandbellydance.co.nz/classes

These workshops are suitable for beyond beginner level. Modifications will be given for more challenging combos.
