Ways MEDANZ can help you

MEDANZ offers a number of ways for students and teachers of Middle Eastern Dance and Music to network, promote and learn about the dances from the Middle East.

  • Our Annual Festival, held in April each year, alternates between New Zealand's main centres on both islands. This festival brings together many of the leaders of the New Zealand Belly Dance community to teach and perform, sometimes along with an international guest artist. In 2018 the festival was held in Napier.  For more information click the Festival link.
  • In the last few years, MEDANZ has held Mini-Festivals in Whitianga, Dunedin, Levin, Auckland, Christchurch, Mapua/Nelson and Orewa.  The Mini-Festival brings teachers on our Teacher Network to some of the smaller dance communities around New Zealand, with financial support from MEDANZ. The mini-festival provides learning and performance opportunities for all our members. Further information is available on our Mini-Festival page.
  • Student Scholarship - created in 2013, our Student Scholarship offers up to $1000 value towards dance tuition, plus a dance mentor from the MEDANZ Committee.  Guidelines of the scholarship can be found here.  Applications for the 2018/19 year will open in July 2017.
  • MEDANZ Archive - MEDANZ holds records of all previous Newsletters, Meeting Minutes, and Festival Shows in its Archive.  If you are interested in borrowing any of these items, please contact the Committee by email: committee@medanz.org.nz
  • Teacher Network - for teachers our network offers regular promotion of your services to all members of MEDANZ via our quarterly newsletter, listings on our web page with links to your web site, the opportunity for you to share your skills and events via our web site and the MEDANZ News, and marketing of your workshops via our Annual Festival and Mini-Festival event promotion.  In early 2014 the Committee launched the Teachers' Toolkit - a resource for new teachers and an inspiration to those with more experience, including safe dance practise guidance, reference material on learning styles, guidance on teaching bellydance to pregnant students, plus much more. Here is the link - use the same login that you use to download your Newsletter or Committee Meeting Minutes.  The Teachers' Network since 2014 also gained access to FREE Teacher Training workshops at our Annual Festivals, and we anticipate continuing this offer in the years to come.
  • What's On - Here is a link to our Event calendar with detailed Event listings, so check out the listings in your area now! If you have an event you would like to list on our calendar, please email committee@medanz.org.nz.
  • MEDANZ provides the opportunity for members to challenge themselves by stepping up to become part of the MEDANZ Committee. Committee members volunteer their time to help run the organisation, and help promote Middle Eastern Dance in our community. Committee members become involved in planning our international festival, learn about running events, publishing marketing material, web site creation and mangement, communication, finances and budgets, catalogues and systems, grants and funding, and all kinds of other interesting stuff that is all related to the dance.  If you think you might be interested in becoming a committee member, please email committee@medanz.org.nz for more information.
