Middle Eastern Dance Association of New Zealand
MEDANZ is the Middle Eastern Dance Association of New Zealand, a non-profit Incorporated Society.
Middle Eastern Dance is a term, which includes a number of dances, which originated around the Mediterranean and North Africa. It is often known as "belly dance" in the West.
For more information see the: About Belly Dance pages.
New Zealand is in the South Pacific; only a few hours flight south east of Australia.
MEDANZ is open to Middle Eastern Dancers (students, amateurs and professionals), teachers, vendors, and general supporters.
Any serious student (or teacher) in New Zealand will find benefit from membership
Its aims include: (Paraphrasing the constitution)
(for the complete constitution click here)
MEDANZ provides a network for dancers. Its main method of communication is the newsletter (soon available online to members) which comes out every two months. This contains notices of upcoming events, reviews, and articles of general (MED) interest.
MEDANZ also maintains a list of local teachers (including non-members).
MEDANZ also provides workshops and student performance opportunities on an ad hoc basis.
For more information on these events keep an eye on the What's On page.
As more and more dancers become computer literate, this site has increased in its content and images. However, it still remains largely text based. We hope that it will be a useful tool for dancers, vendors, teachers and everyone with an interest in Middle Eastern dance both here in New Zealand, and abroad.
This site provides a forum for its members to come and discuss any issues they might have, to ask questions and get to know dancers throughout the country, and online access to information found in the newsletters.
We also provide the general public with up to date information on the annual MEDANZ Festival, and other current Middle Eastern dance related happenings throughout New Zealand.
We welcome feedback & suggestions for content. Please feel free to email Kelly, the web mistress: medanz.onlne@gmail.com.
