The 2017 MEDANZ show celebrates 25 years of Middle Eastern Dance in New Zealand.

The show is open to all genres of Middle Eastern dance and it's derivative forms including Tribal and Fusion.

Guidelines for Prospective Performers

  • Items submitted must meet one of the following requirements:

1. Performances that take their inspiration from one or more of our previous Festival keynote teachers (you can view the list of these on the website under Festival history),  or dancers whose style has had a significant impact on the New Zealand Middle Eastern Dance community. Your submission should name the teacher you have been inspired by and describe which aspect of their teaching, performance or style has inspired your piece.

2. Performances that celebrate 25 years of MEDANZ by reflecting the unique influence of the New Zealand environment, culture, music, or language on Middle Eastern Dance in New Zealand. You might reflect these elements in your choice of music, movements, props, costuming, etc.

3. Performance which reflect your perspective on what it means to be a member of the MEDANZ community. For example, the opportunities it has enabled, support receieved, networking, exposure to international teachers, other dance styles, performance opportunities, etc.).

Your submission should describe how your piece celebrates or reflects these things.

  • Each performer must be a current member of MEDANZ, have performed in public before, and participate in at least one workshop as a student at the festival. Membership and workshop participation will be checked prior to performance.
  • This year all submissions will need to be supported by a performance video - this does not need to be of the exact piece being submitted, just a performance example from the dancer or troupe submitting.   The preferred method of video submission is online via a Dropbox or YouTube link, however DVDs will also be accepted by mail to MEDANZ (Contact us).
  • All performers must be available for the rehearsal on Friday 14th April between 2-6pm
  • If you are confirmed as a performer for the Windows of the East show, you will be sent a confirmation along with a Technical Requirements Sheet, plus a video and photo release form, please sign and return this to us by the due date.  Consent must be obtained from yourself and all troupe members who intend to perform at the show.

Show submissions closed December 31st 2016.
